Exploring the role of different morphologies of β-Ni(OH)2for electrocatalytic urea oxidation and the effects of electrochemically active surface area

Ni(OH)2, as a multifunctional material, has found its applications in great number of research areas. In particular, it is an efficient catalyst for urea oxidation reaction (UOR), which important alternative oxygen evolution electrocatalytic water splitting. This work investigates the effect materials morphology on UOR performance β-Ni(OH)2, well importance characterising catalysts’ surface by electrochemical active area. Three different morphologies (nanoflowers, nanocubes, and nanosheets) were prepared via simple hydrothermal approach. The structure as-prepared samples carefully examined scanning electron microscopy, transmission powder X-ray diffraction. β−Ni(OH)2 was evaluated means cyclic voltammetry, linear sweep Tafel analysis, Nanosheet Ni(OH)2 electrocatalyst exhibits higher current density responses (28.3 mA cm-2 ECSA at 1.6 V vs. RHE) lower slope plot (72.6 mV dec-1). Consequently, due to exposure more sites reactants, electrode with nanosheet displayed during compared nanoflower nanocube samples.
